Air Fryer Chickpeas no oil recipe is an addictive healthy snack that you can make in no time. Roasted chickpeas in air fryer is the crispiest you'll ever try. You can also choose from 8 amazing flavor options - spicy chili lime, sweet ginger, turmeric pepper, ranch seasoned, sweet cinnamon, smoky old bay, & Italian.

Ingredients
 

  • 15.5 ounce chickpeas - **drained and rinsed lightly from the can. 439 g. Use 15.5 ounce chickpeas for each flavor option.

Spicy Chili Lime

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice - **Use freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika - **use sweet paprika. DO NOT use smoked paprika.
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt - **or add according to your personal taste preference.

Honey Ginger

  • 1 tablespoon Honey - **or use maple syrup if you are vegan.
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt - ****or add according to your personal taste preference.

Turmeric Pepper

  • ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika - **sweet paprika. DO NOT use smoked paprika.
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ tsp salt - **or add according to your personal taste preference.

Cinnamon Sugar

  • 1 tablespoon sugar - **granulated sugar or use brown sugar. You can also use organic coconut sugar.
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Ranch

  • 1.5 tablespoon ranch seasoning - **ranch dressing from the packet.

BBQ

  • 1 teaspoon paprika - **use sweet paprika. DO NOT use smoked paprika.
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon celery salt

Italian

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt - **or add according to your personal taste preference.

Smoky Old Bay

  • 1.5 teaspoon old bay seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

Instructions
 

Prep Chickpeas

  • Drain the canned chickpeas with the help of a colander and rinse them lightly under running tap water. Allow the water to drain completely. Place the drained chickpeas in a bowl and pick your favorite seasoning combo from the list above. Add the seasoning ingredients and toss the chickpeas to coat them well.

Air fry chickpeas

  • Pre-heat the air fryer at 390 F for 5 mins. Than transfer the seasoned chickpeas into the air fryer basket and layer them in a single layer. Air fry at 390 F for 17 mins shaking the basket every 3 mins. Check for doneness. If you prefer more crunch just air fry at the same settings for 1-3 mins more.

  • The cook time will depend on your air fryer model and brand, I tested the recipe using a Bella air fryer and also an instant pot air fryer lid and 17 mins cook time is just perfect. You might need to adjust the cook time slightly depending on your air fryer. I would say that keep on checking the chickpeas closely after 15 mins cook time.

Serve

  • Now, for an intense flavor profile you can make a little more seasoning mix than stated in this recipe and set it aside. Sprinkle this extra seasoning on top of the air fryer roasted chickpeas and toss them to coat them well. Now, we do not follow this step always but you can if you want to. Enjoy the air fryer garbanzo beans!

Notes

  • Do not Double recipe: The chickpeas when overcrowded in the air fryer basket won't crisp up evenly. Do not double this recipe. You must air fry 1 can of chickpeas per batch with the seasoning mix of your choice.
  • Are leftovers crunchy: Store the air fryer roasted chickpeas in a paper bag for 2-3 days for the maximum amount of crunch. They will lose the crispness past 2-3 days. It tastes best when served right away from the air fryer to the plate.
  • Why rinse chickpeas: This will help reduce the sodium content of the chickpeas and also make them easily digestible.
  • Cook time: The air frying time will depend on your air fryer model and brand. You might have to adjust the cook time to achieve the amount of crunch you prefer. I tested the recipe using Bella air fryer and also the instant pot air fryer lid and the 17 mins cook time was perfect! Do check the chickpeas frequently after 15 mins. 
  • Shaking the basket: Do shake the air fryer basket every 3-5 mins to ensure even roasting of the chickpeas and to prevent the seasoning from burning.
